Terry O’Halloran) “This was our 9th consecutive
appearance at the state swimming meet. We were very
excited to have Conner, Mike, Tommy, and Jared earn
All Ohio Honors and All-American Consideration in the
200 free relay. Conner earned his 5th individual All-Ohio

meet our 200 free relay was in jeopardy because Mike
was in the hospital with suspected appendicitis. Fortunately
the tests were inconclusive so he was cleared to swim.
He had a great anchor split of 21.27. Winning the State

16, 2008 - DISTRICT TOURNAMENT
The Boardman High School Swim Team qualified four boys
to swim in the Ohio High School State Swimming and Diving
Championships at C. T. Branin Natatorium in Canton this
coming weekend. The Spartans qualified at the Northeast
District Swim Championships held at Cleveland State
University this past weekend. Leading the way for the
Spartans was four time state qualifier Senior Conner
O’Halloran who posted a second place finish in
the 50 yard freestyle (21.59) and third in the 100 freestyle
(47.13). Also, four time state qualifier Senior Mike
Barringer placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke
(59.73). Both 100s were career best times for the Spartan
co-captains and automatically qualified them for the
state meet. The boy’s 200 freestyle relay placed
7th at the districts and also qualified at-large for
the state meet. Joining O’Halloran and Barringer
were Senior Jared Ebie and Freshman Tommy Slagle. The
boys posted a time of 1:28.36. Senior Mark Brooks will
be traveling to the state meet as a relay alternate.
(Coach Terry O’Halloran) “We had an awesome
district meet! The competition was the fastest I have
seen in my 23 years of high school swimming. If you
make the top twenty-four state qualifiers in Ohio in
any of the events you are part of an elite group of
swimmers. The girls on the relay team asked me if they
could shave my head if they made it to states. After
Ashley Aldan’s butterfly swim and the 200 free
relay qualifying, I knew I would need to break out my
knitted caps. Conner and Mike had great swims and splits
on the relays. Their leadership the last four years
in and out of the pool has been outstanding. We are
proud that this is our eighth consecutive year at the
state meet. We hope to carry our district meet momentum
into Canton this weekend.”

best times. Conner O’Halloran stepped it up by
posting the fastest time in the 50 free for the Northeast
District. He had an explosive turn and a powerful finish.
Ashely Aldan had a great day Saturday breaking three
school records. Her 53.14 split on the final 400 free
relay was an incredible swim. Megan Palmer is one of
our hardest workers. She dominated the field in the
500 free and broke a 20 year old school record in winning
the event. What impressed us the most this weekend was
our team chemistry. The positive energy continued to
build throughout the two day meet and concluded with
our 400 free relay knocking 5 seconds off the school
record. We will need the same energy to get us through
next week’s district pressure cooker in Cleveland.”

had one of our best overall team performances at this
year’s sectional meet. Almost all of our forty-three
swimmers swam their best times. Conner O’Halloran
stepped it up by posting the fastest time in the 50
free for the Northeast District. He had an explosive
turn and a powerful finish. Ashely Aldan had a great
day Saturday breaking three school records. Her 53.14
split on the final 400 free relay was an incredible
swim. Megan Palmer is one of our hardest workers. She
dominated the field in the 500 free and broke a 20 year
old school record in winning the event. What impressed
us the most this weekend was our team chemistry. The
positive energy continued to build throughout the two
day meet and concluded with our 400 free relay knocking
5 seconds off the school record. We will need the same
energy to get us through next week’s district
pressure cooker in Cleveland.” The following swimmers
advanced to the districts: Megan Palmer, Ashley Aldan,

Boardman High School Spartan Swimmers Junior Conner
O'Halloran, Senior Kenny Drombosky, Senior Brian Worhatch
and Junior Mike Barringer earned All American and First
Team All Ohio Swimming honors while breaking the school
record and placing seventh in the 200FSR at the Ohio
State Swimming Championships in Canton. The 7th place
finish was the first time a Spartan Relay has finished
in the top eight at the State Championship meet. Conner
O'Halloran also earned All American Consideration by
placing 4th in the 50FS with a personal best time of
21.43. O'Halloran now joins former Spartan standout
swimmers Jackie Bak Yost and his brother Tyler O'Halloran
in placing in the top eight sports at the State Championships.
Coach Terry O'Halloran said "We had one of our
best team performances at this year's State Meet. Our
guys swam fast under pressure. Conner had a big time
drop in the 50FS Friday night and that got us off to
a great start. In the finals on Saturday night we decided
to switch the order of our 200FSR which turned out to
be a great move. Conner got us the lead with a great
swim of 21.47. Kenny and Brian followed with career
best splits of 22.30 and 21.96. Mike had a great relay
take off and career best split of 21.67 to anchor the
relay. The Swimmers, Spartan fans and Coaches were thrilled
to see an automatic All-American and school record time
of 1:27.40 on the scoreboard. These four guys have spent

"We had one of our best district meets in the history
of our program. Our guys were ready to swim fast and
hopefully will swim faster at the state meet. They have
worked hard all year in and out of the pool. Knowing
that they have put in the work gives them a much better
chance of success. Also, this is the third year at the
state meet for Conner, Mike and Brian and the big meet
experience gives them the extra edge. The state swimming
championship is a pressure cooker with all of the best
swimmers fighting it out in one of the fastest meets
in the country." Both of the school record times will
be considered for All-American certification. The previous
All-American record time of 1:39.42 in the 200MR was
set in 2003 by Lee Knight, Tyler O'Halloran, Brian Katz
and Grant Brown. The 200FSR All-American record time
of 1:28.11 was set in 2000 by Tyler O'Halloran, Kevin
Gesacion, Grant Brown and Tom Masters. Barringer just
missed making the state meet in the 100Breast by less
than a half of a second. He finished 7th in a personal
best time of 1:02.42. The time was the second fastest
time in that event in school history. Barringer also
had a 14th place finish in the 200IM. Worhatch placed

hald of a second off of a state qualifying time. Worhatch

a 23rd place finish in the 50FS in a personal best time

46th. On the Girls side of the meet Sophomore Megan

the time of 1:05.29. Palmer placed 27th in the 500FS
in 5:34.35 and 34th in the 200FS in the time of 2:05.75.
(Coach O'Halloran) "Our Girls have come a long way since
the beginning of the season. Aldan and Palmer have had
big time drops this year. We have some fast girls coming
up next year who will mix well with our rapidly improving
underclassmen. Coaches Carlo Cordon, Greg McAtee and
I are very excited about the future of Girls Swimming
at BHS!"
