Football Team Takes First Place in Power Lifting Competition
On Saturday, March 4, 2006
members of the Boardman High School Football Team competed
in the "Columbiana Power Meet" power lifting competition.
The Spartans made a strong showing, and they were
awarded the First Place trophy with a team total of
14,175 lbs.
Individual awards
were earned by the Spartans in their weight class as
follows: The 115# weight class third place finisher
was Matt Romeo. Matt also took 3rd place in squat at
185#, and 3rd in the dead lift at 225#. In the
145# weight class, Damien Jarrett finished in 1st place,
and Marc Centofanti took 3rd place. Damian took 1st
place in the squat at 330#, and also took 1st place
and set a new meet record in the dead lift at 435#.
In the 165# weight class, Tim Strasik and Ryan Holmes
tied for second place in the squat at 365#. In
the 175# weight class, Bob Bovara finished 4th overall,
and took 2nd in the dead lift at 515#. The 185#
weight class had Nick Savage finishing 4th overall.
The Spartans cleaned up in the 195# weight class. Overall
finishers were Dan Marian in 1st place, Anthony Calcagni
in 3rd place, and Nick Newland in 4th place. Anthony
LaVolpa took 3rd in the bench-press with a weight of
300#. In the squat, Dan Marian took 1st at 465#, and
Nick Newland took 3rd at 435#. In the dead lift, Anthony
Calcagni finished 1st and set a new meet record with
his lift of 545#. Nick Newland finished 3rd in the dead
lift at 435#. In the 210# weight class, Michael
Sypert finished 4th overall, and took 4th in the squat
at 405#. The 225# weight class had Matt Snovak
finishing 3rd overall, and Darryl (Juice) Moore finished
6th. Snovak took 4th in the bench press with a lift
of 310#, and Moore finished 1st in the dead lift at
565#. In the 250# weight class, Jimmy Westerfield
took 6th overall, and Corey Linsley finished 4th in
the bench-press with a lift of 285#. The Unlimited
weight class had Jeremy Morales finishing 2nd overall.
Morales also took 2nd in the squat at 480#, and third
in the dead lift at 535#. Don Humphreys took 4th in
the dead lift at 420#. Other members of the football
team that competed were; Kevin Howells, Terrence Jordan,
Alex Antonucci, John Stanko, Frank Ocasio, Robert Mowery,
John Corroto, Michael Popio, Cameron Shaffer, Greg Knight,
Taylor Truitt, Casey Susany, Eric Polen, Dan Morris,
Jordan Paradise, Kenny Richards, Pat Palma, and Kevin
Mills.
Coach D.J. Ogilvie said, "I was extremely
pleased with the outcome of the competition. It shows
our kids that their hard work pays off. Many of our
guys won trophies, and set a couple of records, but
I was most proud of the way they cheered each other
on. Many people complemented them on the team work they
showed" |
