Boardman 3 Ursuline 3
The Boardman High School Soccer Complex was the site
of an unusual game situation Saturday afternoon as The
Fighting Irish of Ursuline High School played "host"
to the Boardman Spartans on the Spartans home field.
A scheduling conflict at the Ursuline home field led
to this unique situation, and set the stage for a back
and forth battle that ended in a 3-3 tie. Ursuline celebrated
their "Senior Night" by honoring 10 seniors
and their parents before the start of the varsity match.
Boardman opened the scoring as Senior Captain T.J. Hosa
beat his left side defender , and sent a cross to a
leaping Anthony Grenga who volleyed the ball into the
lower left corner. The Irish answered back quickly with
a header just passed the reach of diving goalkeeper
Matt Moore. Play intensified, which resulted in a free
kick taken by Freshman Midfielder Trevor Ragan just
outside the Ursuline eighteen. Ragan's line drive kick
ripped past The Irish defense, finding the back of the
net giving Boardman a 2-1 edge that lasted into the
second half. The second half scoring started with Ursuline
scoring first, tying the match at 2-2. Boardman regained
the lead as The Spartans were once again awarded a free
kick. T.J. Hosa found the net, giving The Spartans a
3-2 advantage with only minutes remaining. A furious
attack by Ursuline created a throw-in deep in Spartan
territory for The Irish. The result was a long throw-in
in front of the Boardman goal, touched numerous times
before being cleaned -up off the back post by a charging
Ursuline player, netting a 3-3 tie. In goal for the
Spartans was Matt Moore with 5 saves and Jason Franko
with 3 saves. Boardman's record now stands at 7-2-2
